Hymenolepis nana adult as seen in the intestine of humans but more usually the normal host the rat (no intermediate host is required, but the cat flea can act as the intermediate host). Rostellum is protruding and has a single row of 20 - 30 hooks, scolex has 4 suckers, mature segments are wider than long 0.2 x 0.8 mm and have 1 lateral genital pore, gravid segments are wider than long 0.3 x 1 mm. The tapeworm is 1 - 3 cm long with 200 segments.
